The course is most suitable for teachers, tutors and trainers who may be working within a Further Education college, Adult and Community Learning Centre or Learning Provider and are currently not qualified. The course is also suitable for those not yet in a teaching or training role, but wish to be.


What does the qualification cover?

The course covers the following units:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training

  • Understanding assessment in education and training

Outline of Skills & Knowledge

  • To understand the roles and responsibilities of teaching

  • To understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches within a candidate’s specialist area

  • To plan, deliver and evaluate micro-teaching sessions

  • To observe and assess micro-teaching sessions

  • To understand the use of assessment methods and record-keeping

Successful students have progressed onto the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training and the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.

Several students have fulfilled the requirements of their employment by taking the programme.

Some students have found teaching and training-related employment as a result of doing the qualification.

How will I learn?

You will be taught in various ways, including practical sessions, but lessons will typically consist of active learning in a classroom environment.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through assignment coursework, and practical assessment in the classroom – this includes a 15-minute micro-teaching session, which you must deliver to your peers, and take part in the evaluation process of other micro-teaching sessions.
